Common Problems and Troubleshooting Guide for Vibration Screens

April 23, 2020

While vibrating screens can effectively do their intended feeding operations for a certain time, there will be instances where they might suddenly malfunction. Here are some common problems that may occur on your vibration screens and ways on how to troubleshoot or fix them.

Abnormal Material Flow

Anomalies on your vibration screen’s material flow may be caused by numerous reasons. One, it might be possible that your screen box’s rigidity is now insufficient. Inaccurate horizontal level of the screen box can also cause abnormal material flow. You can also experience abnormal material flow if your screen surface or mesh is damaged. If you also feed materials unequally, then it will ultimately result in abnormal material flow.

To solve this problem, you might need to adjust the scaffold height to make your screen box’s horizontal level accurate. You can also modify your spring and screen surface to normalise material flow. When you feed your materials, make sure that they are evenly spread on the surface.

Power-Related Anomalies

There will be times where your vibration screen will fail to start or boot up. If this problem happens to you, you may want to assess the status of your vibration motor and its components. Once you have seen any damages on these components, replace them immediately.

Your vibration screen might also have low voltage as you can feel its power struggling from the mechanical works required by the vibration components. When you experience this type of problem, you must change your power source so that you can supply the needed power.

Vibration Exciter Problems

The vibration exciter of your screen can also cause problems in your regular operations. The coupling bolt on your vibration exciter might have already been detached, while its grease might have already become thickened and agglomerated. If you encounter these problems, you must solve them right away. You must clean and repair the vibration exciter so that it can provide excellent mechanical vibratory motion to your screen. As for the grease, you should choose a suitable one to avoid obtaining granular grease.

Low Screening Efficiency

The quality of your screening becomes poor whenever your screen mesh has tons of blockages out of stuck particles and moisture. Poor screening quality can also be contributed to the assembly of your screen mesh. Two sides of your screen may not have been pulled tightly as recommended. Your drive belt might be also too loose.

To resolve these problems, you may want to change your feeding operations. You must maintain uniform feeding operations by spreading the particles correctly on the screen mesh. You must also reduce your screen loads. If there are no improvements, you should finally clean the screen surface. The inclination angle of your screen box may have to be adjusted as well to maintain high screening efficiency. Tightening the mesh and drive belt can also help your screen operate correctly.

Problems in Bearing

Any heating problems concerning your bearing are caused by poor maintenance. Your bearing might not have enough lubricating oil. On the other hand, its grease might be too much, or the oil placed on it is not suitable. There is also a chance that your bearing might encounter some blockage, which can lead to damages.

The solution to your bearing problems will depend on your situation. You might want to inject some lubricant into your bearing if you do not have enough oil. Just make sure that the oil matches the specifications of your bearing. You must also clean your bearing, especially if some materials or particles are blocking its way. Finally, replace your bearing if it is already damaged.
