How to Improve Screening Efficiency in Today’s Market

This process separates material into different sized products, on which the end products will be used in different building and construction projects. Screening may be straightforward, but the demand for the core construction materials is rising exponentially. With this growth, you need to make your screening capabilities efficient and effective.

Monitor Screening Surface

Due to the demand of the current product mixes of smaller aggregate metal, the screen must have a much more open area. These characteristics make the bed depths of the screen larger than the acceptable bed dept, causing wear and tear to the screening equipment. Moreover, screen decks can be blinded due to the excessive bed depth and accumulated moisture of the materials. To make screening more efficient, you must monitor the bed depth and crusher setting regularly. With your bed depth, make sure that it is not four times higher than the screen cloth’s opening. Your crusher setting must be kept at its optimal setting at all times for a proper screening process.

Increase Screening Speed

While the screening equipment performs optimally with the recommended speed, it will be more efficient for you to crank up the screening speed as much as possible. The increase in screening speed, together with the opening of the screen a little bit and optimal setting of your crusher can help you screen materials at a faster rate. Moreover, the stroke of the screen must also be modified depending on the products that you screen and the size that you prefer. Remember, each material varies on how they must be screened at a given time and size.

Select Appropriate Screen Media

One common problem with screening materials lies in the use of inappropriate screen media. The construction industry relies on a huge range of materials so that a structure can be built with high-quality. Right now, there are three most common types of screen media that you must use according to the qualities of the material. For one, wire cloth is usually used in most cases since they provide an open area for the screen to run smoothly.

Another type of screen media is urethane, which has been popular for the last two decades. Urethane media is suitable for wet and abrasive applications since it has a much less open area. In exchange of the lost output of screened materials per hour, this type of screen media can last a very long time. Lastly, a hybrid or flex type screen media is often used in high moisture applications. The flexing capability of this media prevents the screen openings from being clogged with materials. This hybrid screen media is most suitable for fine, wet applications.

Rotate the Screen

Laying the screen media flat may be the normal way of doing the screening process. However, running the screen uphill can greatly increase the throughput and decrease any carryover of undersized material. When the screen is uphill, the material finds more time on finding an opening to pass through. The rotation of the screen is viable if the materials won’t be building up in the crusher feedbox.
